이 책은 아이엘츠(IELTS) 독해 지문에 자주 나오는 필수어휘를 중심으로 표제어를 선정했다. 시험 빈출 정도를 숫자(1-9까지)로 표기하였고 이러한 표시가 어휘로 고생하는 초보자나 효율적인 공부를 하고 싶은 시험 준비생에게 조금이나마 가이드가 되었으면 한다. 하지만 이것은 저자의 주관이므로 절대적으로 믿어서는 안 되고 이 책에 나오는 거의 모든 어휘는 기본으로 생각하고 알아두었으면 한다. 다만 이 책을 마무리하면서 지면상 더 많은 어휘를 설명하지 못하고 초보자 중심으로 쓰다 보니 전체적으로 어휘가 쉬워진 게 아쉬운 점이다. 빈출어휘를 좋은 예문과 함께 공부하여 더욱 발전하기를 바란다. 어휘를 무조건 외우는 것보다는 체계적으로 공부하는 게 중요하다. 이 책에서는 어휘의 구성원리인 어원에 맞추어 Chapter 1에서는 어근과 접미어를 살펴보고, Chapter 2에서는 접두어를 통해 더 많은 어휘를 접할 수 있다. Chapter 1과 2는 초보자들이 반드시 배워야 할 과정이라고 생각한다. 이 과정에서는 시간을 많이 투자하는 것이 좋으나 시간이 없는 경우는 건너뛰고 보아도 무방할 것이다.
