Ted Arnold's love of children's books began when he was a child and his mother read him Dr. Seuss. Before writing his own books, he had many interesting jobs, including soldier, hamburger maker, popcorn popper at the movie theater, worm counter at a fishing tackle store, delivering newspapers, and advertising. He has now published more than 30 books as a writer and illustrator. He currently lives in Elmira, New York.

뉴욕 주 엘미라에서 태어나 플로리다 대학에서 미술을 전공했다. 유치원 교사였던 아내 덕분에 어린이 책에 관심을 갖게 된 테드는 첫아들 월터한테서 영감을 받아 수작 '침대에서 뛰지 마!'를 발표했다. 현재 테드는 가족과 함께 엘미라에서 살고 있다. 테드가 직접 쓰고 그린 책들은 30권도 넘게 출판되었다. 책을 쓰지 않을 때 테드는 주로 테니스, 스케치, 독서, 동전 수집, 그리고 컴퓨터를 벗 삼아 지낸다고 한다.
